drawing in drawing class...?

i was working on this in one of my drawing classes last week. i couldn't resist the still life set up in front of me. these vent/ duct work pipes are so cool looking i had to try drawing it! this is so not finished, the inside of the pipe should be a lot darker...

someone might steal my idea! i think i've figured out how i want this piece to look, i just hope that my idea will work. this will be submitted to the printmakers guild show at creighton this winter. (more to come). 

magnolia

went to town on this painting the other night. i think i know what it needs, but i'm thinking on it still. we finally got back to dianes painting class, it was so nice to be there again! paint!!

pepper

i started this two block wood reduction the other day. i wanted to make sure that i have all the right supplies and knowledge to do one at my studio. this is so very small (3x5), once it's done i'm going to want to do a big one! i have no idea where this image is going but all i can think about is how strong that red is. (happy birthday brian and christy!)

magnolia

my friend has a beautiful magnolia tree in her backyard. a couple of weeks ago i took a photo of a lil' arrangement i made with the magnolia petals and other floral bits i had found in the yard. this painting is based off the photo and is the first layer of more to come (acrylic on unprimed canvas).

chicken leg

a couple of weeks ago i was strolling through my friends backyard and saw this funky stick. it looked just like a chicken leg, and it had to be mine. i took it home and set it on my kitchen counter for a while, so beautiful this stick. i needed to work on a still life for my watercolor class i'm teaching at the joslyn and the chicken leg needed to be in my painting. also included is my vajra, a powerful buddhist symbol that i picked up in bangkok.

figure it out...

moving on to a new piece... i've got a show coming up in january and am trying to figure out what i could conjure up for it. starting to play with materials and patterns to see how things settle visually.

step two

my second color for the reduction print. you can see the underlying yellow from 'step one'. next is either blue or red- keep checking for it.

step one-

step one in a reduction print is carving out the white areas. normally you should print light to dark - yeaye yellow! soon you will see the garuda - soon...

smelt roe

this is the current acrylic painting i'm working on. i started filling the space with these little tiny red/orange circles and couldn't help but recognize them as smelt roe. so, of course i was craving sushi for a couple of days.

scarab

just a crappy little sketch that i did the other day. now that some of my classes are finished, i've been trying to catch up on the rest of my life! getting rid of clutter in the house, pulling weeds in the yard, running long overdue errands...it's amazing what you can do with more time! all of this, and my drawings have fallen off to the side...bad, amy, bad! don't fret my devoted bloggees, more art on the way!

stencils

this canvas had been on the 'back burner' for so long i thought i would take it to school with me and add some stencils to it. definately looks better, but needs a lot more.

tree

this is part of an illustration for a friend, but i have to admit that i would like to use it for one of my own pieces. i have always dreaded drawing trees. trying to emulate nature just seems nearly impossible at times. yesterday, i sat down and decided it was time to at least try...

this painting is in the VERY early stages of its life. this particular piece is hopefully going to be used for a product, if everything goes well. the project is on the hush-hush for now, but i'll keep ya posted.
