Golden Eagle

This one was a little tricky for me. Since the eagle is so close up, it kept getting distorted and abstract when I looked at it. I do like how it turned out, it seems very different from the others. It's around 16"x20" with an edition of 6. 

Duckling

When I painted this last week, it was in hopes that Spring was here....not yet. Watercolor study, 9"x12". 

Cardinal

Loved the expression on this guys face. "You talkin' ta me??". Watercolor 9"x12"

Foxy

Birds are easier to draw than foxes. 

Hawk (dinner)

Reduction woodcut, I think it's around 16"x20" three colors. I loooovvvvee this one. I've been seeing hawks eating and capturing all sorts of little creatures lately. Last spring, I saw nearly this same image driving through Iowa. A hawk swooped down and snagged a mouse and was carrying it off right next to my car window. It was wicked cool!

Crow (yell)

A 9"x12" watercolor, mostly drybrush. I had a great time layering all the texture and color in this guy. What do you think he's yelling about? 

Hawk (profile)

A drypoint copper intaglio, 4"x6". This was for a print exchange with my printmaking students at the community college. I had fun teaching that class, it was a great group of people! 

Owl

Another watercolor study...I love the orange with the gray washes. The penetrating stare and the textured feathers make this fellow quite the character!

Black Capped Chicadee

I had to do this watercolor. My sister always called me chicadee when I was little, so whenever I hear that word I think of her. It seems that watercolor painted birds are the way to go. The medium really lends itself to the textures of the feathers. Chica chica!

Flying Bat

Some people get creeped out by bats, so I tried to make this one look cutesy by using all the pink. It was fun drawing and printing a more menacing creature than the birds I've been working on lately. He looks like he's dancing to me...get down Mr. Bat!
