i think this is my last garuda - at least for a while. i finished this painting last night and started on my reduction woodblock this afternoon at the Guild. the print will be mostly this garuda body, but different in the face. soon - you shall see...

celtic bird

as you can see, i'm still on my celtic kick. i was hoping i could transfer this to a solarplate, but it's too big for the plate. so, i'll either shrink it down or do a different one. tough call...

abstract celtic cross

i couldn't help but do more with the celtic cross. the colors matched, the composition was already there - it was too obvious. i think this one is finally done.

black heart

when i was out in s.f. i had a request for a black heart on a red shirt. it's a little delayed, but here it is! i hope cindy likes it...

garuda III

as you can see i keep drawing/painting these 'garuda' guys. i have become strangely attracted to them, and the idea of them. they are protectors of images.
i'm trying to find the perfect drawing for a woodblock print.

revisiting Hokusai

this is just a little sketch from a Hokusai woodblock print. his prints are absolutely amazing and his compositions are wonderfully orchestrated. this particular print was the basis for a woodblock i did last year and had great fun with.

"bring on the night"

last night, was a rockin' great show. i have to admit, i was confused and bummed at first because there was no elvis costello. but when the police stepped on stage, i could feel my checks getting streched from a big grin on my face. they started with 'bring on the night' and then went right into the song i was singing in my car as i was driving to the show- 's.o.s.'. they played beautifully, wonderfully, amazingly...
our seats were perfect, even though in the nose bleeds, it wasn't too crowded and claustrophobic. i kept giggling because of the awesome music and because i kept looking around and i would see people with their cell phones trying to take photos or videos. it just seemed so silly to me. lots of dancin' and singing along. the encore was 'roxanne' and 'king of pain' which was when we skipped out. love the police!!!
(there have been 'hits' from an elvis costello forum to this site... did i miss elvis at the quest? when did he play and why did my ticket say the show starts at nine- when the police came on? weird!)

"Ricemarch Psalter"

that's what the book calls this "ricemarch psalter" with no description of what is really going on. i do know that it's the first letter from a paragraph... yeah, that's about it. i just couldn't help but draw it!

celtic cross

this was drawn from a book i bought at trinity college in dublin. i remember being blown away by the whole experience of not only being in ireland, but going to trinity and seeing the book of kells - what a day! i did this drawing last night, it was one of those times when i needed to creatively purge. i told steve that it felt like my arm wasn't even connected to my body, it was on autopilot, just drawing like mad.

scarab

just a crappy little sketch that i did the other day. now that some of my classes are finished, i've been trying to catch up on the rest of my life! getting rid of clutter in the house, pulling weeds in the yard, running long overdue errands...it's amazing what you can do with more time! all of this, and my drawings have fallen off to the side...bad, amy, bad! don't fret my devoted bloggees, more art on the way!

done and done

here's my sister and i so very close to the finish line. she had the biggest smile in a lot of the photos that my mom took. we did it, our second and final marathon. thanks for all the support - mom, steve, and christy!

here we go again...

my sister and i are running the lincoln marathon tomorrow morning. last year we did the half marathon, this year we're doing all 26.2. the consensus is that this is our last full marathon, and that from here on out half marathons are the way to go. i have to admit that here, the night before the race i have varying emotions of anticipation.

open house

the annual open house is this weekend at hot shops art center. it's guaranteed a good time! food, drinks, demonstrations, and of course some pretty sweet art! i will be in my studio (216) today only from noon(ish) to 3. but the open house runs today, saturday may 3 from noon to 8 and sunday may 4 from noon to 5.
