flowerhall

Flowerhall
here's the painting that i started last week in dianes class. i added an abstracted flower on top of the first layer. i think the color combination and organic shapes keep my eyes very actively moving across the canvas. i still dig the unprimed canvas look, the delicacy of the colors and fuzzed out edges when some of the colors touched.

stress ball

Ball
been a little stressed lately....nothing new actually...
i thought i would attempt to illustrate a ball of stress spinning out of control. i think i kinda got it, but the ball looks flat to me.

ate show

Cn1
this is the second piece i'm working on for the 'food' themed show this summer. the format has to be 8x8 inches, which is a pretty good size. i've cut these pieces down to one inch squares and am hand stitching them together so the pattern is mixed and matched. hopefully it'll be cool lookin'.

food

Cn3
i've started two pieces recently for a show that's in august. yeah, i don't like to procrastinate...
the theme for the show is 'food' and i had the hardest time thinking of what i would do, i almost considered not doing anything. i don't work with food in my art! but last week i realized that there was one year i went crazy with a vegatable and i could recycle some of the art from that particular year. i don't want to tell you what i used for this print, 'cause you might steal my idea!!

vajra

Vajra
this is a little watercolor i did thursday at school. the new assignment was to use calligraphy/text/quote to create an image. i talked about several examples and then when i sat down at my desk i busted this one out. vajra means thunderbolt and diamond, and i have been intrigued by them since first discovery in a class at ringling. they are so beautiful and powerful.

green

Green
i started this tuesday night in dianes painting class. this is the first time i have ever painted on unprimed canvas, and i really like it. the colors are more delicate, there's no strong harsh white background. this painting has at least one more layer to go...

baseball

Baseball
there is a big whoopla in the city about building a new baseball stadium or adding on to the old one (save rosenblatt). of course the overall vote is to build a totally new one, which i think is silly. the rosenblatt stadium is beautiful and a historical icon. the mayor is trying to get a new one built very near the building that my studio is in...and boy does this scare me! i hope i'm wrong, but i have a terrible feeling that my studio won't be around too long if they do decide to build just across the street. i love baseball, but i love art more!

eggs

Eggs

this is a funky lil drawing i did in class last week. i think i could have kept going with the marks and lines to push the 'energy' of it...

it's been a while...

Whoa
i did this painting the other night at diane's house. it's pretty obvious that i hadn't painted for a quite a while. i described this painting as vomit on canvas- that is what it looks like to me and that's what it felt like when working on it. too many colors and too many layers going on, it did feel good to just go to town on this one.

sculpture

Sculpture
another inspired by the san fran trip. richard and i walked into the hyatt on market street and we were amazed by this huge sculpture in the courtyard. from every angle this sculpture has perfect lines, shapes, and color. more paintings to come from this object.

hallway

Hallway
this is what richard and i saw when we hopped off the market bus out in s.f. i have a photo of it down below, but it's sideways. the repetition of the receding shapes is what got me.

crop circles

Cropcircles
i think i like the drawing i did of this better. this is what i saw out of the airplane window before we landed in denver. it looked beautiful with the crop circles mixed in with the beginning of the rocky mountains. the guy sitting next to me kept trying to lean in to see what i was doing...

behind the record store

Grrr
last week when i was out in s.f. i kept stumbling upon the wickedest pieces. these were all behind the famous amoeba records on haight street. love it...

market street

Sico
i warned you...i take blurry photos! these two were taken on market street. i thought i could get some good paintings out of these designs...

Hiat
i took a bunch of pics of this sculpture in the courtyard of a hyatt. this thing was colossal and beautifully lit.

uhhhmmmm food

Eggs
i stayed with my very loving friend, ricardo in san francisco. he always takes such good care of me! this was brunch one day, and as you can see he puts his 'heart' into every step of the food process. scrambled eggs with onion, cheese, and tortilla...dreamy.

Sugar
the perfect sugars. mango, orange, papaya and pastries! i couldn't control myself, i ate it all!!

Trash
even the rubbish was beautiful!
thanks for letting me stay with you richardo! love love love!
