"goin' back to cali"

please excuse my absence lately. this weekend is my trip to s.f. and i've been madly preparing. wish me luck . . .?

seeds

i started this the other night at dianes house. i began with the x's and they were looking like little seeds to me, it's a harder to see now though. the next step is figuring out what to layer on top of this!

dragon head (again)

i can't get enough of this dragon! he sits outside my watercolor class on top of an amphitheatre and just stares at me. his face is magical as he holds death in his mouth. the other side is life, but we all know about that stuff.

i heart heart

you know those t-shirts and bumper stickers that say i heart ny? well, i heart heart! this is roughly the size of a sticker...3 3/4 x 13. love it!

change of heart

i've been trying to collect foreign coins over the past couple of weeks for this piece. as you can see, i ended up using some local coinage along with my small gathering of worldly coins. there are coins from mexico, australia, england, ireland, cambodia, china, and of course the u. s. of a.

it's done! i like the pop of the black ink. it's pretty amazing when you can get a print to look like the original drawing. i have to get this ready to send off for a juried competition, just gotta get that ink to dry!

demonstration

school started this week, a new semester! i'm teaching watercolor I and II and intro to drawing at UNO. this was the first of a couple of watercolor demonstrations, yeah, i know it's exciting. we talked about flat wash, graduated wash, glazing, wet in wet, and drybrush. i couldn't just leave this page alone, i had to doodle all over it once the demo was finished...

i went to town on this painting last night in diane lounsberry-williams painting class. i just kept adding and adding and adding. i think it looks way better now than last week!

heart racing

this painting makes me giggle every time i look at it. i love it, but i think it's silly too. still preparing for the show in s.f. this piece will definitely be there!

more t-shirts

getting ready for the big show in sf. i made some more t-shirts! i like these ones a little better than some of the others i've made. the darker gray shirts are large and light gray are extra large.

dragon head

well, i finally got the 'special' ink i ordered, so i got to start printing yesterday. this is just the first color, there should be about four more to go - brown, green, black, and one other color? so far so good. i'm hoping to get these done in time for a juried exhibition deadline!

upcoming show!

i am so very excited for my upcoming show in san francisco! my good friend elias is letting me exhibit at his cafe sapore in north beach. i had lunch at his cafe almost everyday i lived there while going to school and working at tower records. i get to see friends and hopefully family during my short visit, it's going to be so nice!

yet another artist that i had become amazed with so many years ago. her art is so intense with the figures and layers of drips and textures. i just love her style and imagery! hung liu rocks!!

well, the painting class with diane lounsberry-williams resumed last night. there's some of the old 'students' and some new ones, which helps change up the energy. i think the colors i used last night are pretty obnoxious, so whatever i do next should be more subdued.
