do you ever just sit and stare at a blank paper and start to see something to draw? that's how this one came about. i was waiting for class to begin yesterday and i started to see this big cross and then smaller ones. it kinda reminds me of a poinsettia too...
well, hello there color! i was overlapping shapes yesterday and could only envision this painting with exploding colors that melt together. i love how watercolor dries!
this was the longest wall in the kitchen that i have been painting off and on for three weeks now. i have about three feet left on the opposite wall and then i'll be finished. i have had a great time painting at mike and kims, but leaning over their counters has done a number on my back!

i am so proud of my s.o. (significant other). he was asked at the last minute to be one of the opening acts for the buck 65 show on saturday night at sokol underground. buck 65 is one of the greatest hip-hop artists of our time, he doesn't do any of that 'gangsta rap' that degrades women or belittles human intelligence.
steve has amazing talent with the turntables and massive courage to get up on a stage perform like a rockstar! you rock steven!
i'm still working on this one, but it's coming along. i keep liking it more and more. can't wait till it's done!
we were just out for a drive and i found myself standing next to this chopped up tree staring at the radar above. such a strange place to be, but i found myself curiously looking up.
finally, i started working on a 'big'(22"x40") watercolor painting. it will take a while to get it finished, but i will. it's all about those shapes and bright colors. it's coming along...
i was talking to my drawing class about tessellations the other day and i thought i would attempt to create my own. we looked at mc escher for inspiration...
yesterday i did a post on francesco clemente because i was thinking of him in my watercolor class. i was teaching my students face and body proportion tricks and i decided to do my own self portrait. i was thinking of clemente and decided to use non-skin tone colors and i accentuated my eyes to make them the focal points.

1. i have a 'black toe' from running too much (yes, i know this is gross. it's even worse if you've seen it.)

i lalove francesco ... especially his portraits. he has great colors and a carefree painting style. the image below is a cover from his book of celebrity portraits. a beautiful book full of beautiful paintings.
i spent my whole day sadly watching my huge tree get cut down. it was over eighty years old, sick, and not taken care of in the past. i felt sick watching it go through the 'chipper' and the stump removal shook the house just like my soul. why should i be so bummed about a silly ol' tree? because it's nature and beautiful and it was just treated like a 'job'. at least i got some pictures and a couple of wood pieces.
my s.o. ("significant other") painted this yesterday at northsea films downtown. rez is THE best mural painter in the midwest, and here's the proof. to see more of his painting check his myspace or drive around downtown omaha.
for the past two weeks i have been a visiting artist at catlin elementary school in ops. it has been great fun working with the fifth graders on their printmaking project! i'll be meeting with them a few more times to print their four color reduction prints. catlin is the greatest elementary school for all the arts!
all i've had time for are these little watercolor studies. i love doing them, i just would like to work on something bigger! enjoy...
